Health Talk: Psychiatry - What does it actually mean?

On Wednesday, 15 March from 19:30 // Registration is urgently requested // Free admission

On Wednesday, 15 March, the next lecture in the series GESUNDHEITSTALK, which is organised in cooperation with the VHS and the Ärztenetz BOHRIS e.V., is on the programme. Dr. Ruth Jacoby, a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, will speak on the topic "Psychiatry - What does it actually mean?". The venue is the Bocholt Media Centre, Hindenburgstr. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Due to the foreseeable large response, the VHS advises reserving a seat at www.vhs-bocholt.de.

Mental illnesses are on the rise. Every fourth adult in Germany is affected by a mental illness in the course of a year; meanwhile, depression and the like are the most frequent reason for early retirement and the second most frequent reason for incapacity to work. So everyone must expect to come into contact with it at some point - as a sufferer or as a relative.

On the other hand, psychiatry, more than any other medical discipline, has to contend with fear of contact and prejudice. Likewise, the members of the helping system are sometimes confronted with completely unrealistic expectations of healing.

The speaker, Dr. Ruth Jakoby, MD, is a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as addiction medicine. She worked for a long time at the St. Vincent Hospital; since 2015 she has been a practising doctor in the neurological practice ZNS, a joint practice with two locations, in Bocholt and in Borken. In her lecture, she gives an overview of psychiatric illnesses and the therapeutic options available today.
