Lost property is generally kept for six months. Items of lost property with no material or recognisable sentimental value may be disposed of earlier in individual cases. After this period, they become the property of the city or are auctioned off, provided the finder has not declared a reservation of title.

How much does the service cost?

Am I entitled to a finder's fee?

The finder may claim a finder's fee from the person entitled to receive the item. The finder's fee is 5 per cent of the value of the item up to 500 euros, 3 per cent of any additional value, and 3 per cent in the case of animals. If the item has value only to the person entitled to receive it, the finder's fee shall be determined at the court's discretion.

Can I hand in lost property anonymously?

Yes, that is possible. Please note that in that case you will not be entitled to a finder's fee or to claim ownership of the item.
