The bathing bay at Bocholter AaseeSunbathing lawn and sandy beach at Lake Aa are ready
Opening on Saturday, 24 May 2025, start of the bathing season on 7 June 2025 // Turf well established
From Saturday, 24 May 2025, the sunbathing lawn with sandy beach at Bocholter Aasee will be open to the public again. The area was last used for the temporary storage of sediment during work on the Aasee inlet. After extensive repair work and re-vegetation, the popular leisure facility is now ready for use again.
Further maintenance work is required on the sunbathing lawn and the sandy beach until Saturday. This includes cleaning, harrowing and rolling the newly laid turf as well as fertilisation measures.
In addition, groundwater peaks will be flushed to ensure sufficient irrigation of the area during the current dry weather. The neighbouring sandy beach will also be cleaned, levelled and filled with fresh beach sand.
Bocholt's First City Councillor Björn Volmering emphasises: "The Aasee is a central part of our local recreational offer. I am delighted that we are able to open up the sunbathing lawn and sandy beach to the public again."
The official bathing area at Lake Aa, which can be used free of charge, will open on Saturday, 7 June 2025. Until then, the DLRG Bocholt local group will be installing the necessary buoy chain. The bathing area will be supervised daily between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. during school hours and daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at weekends, on public holidays and during school holidays. Supervision is organised by the city on weekdays, while DLRG Bocholt takes over this task at weekends and on public holidays.
During opening hours, free toilet facilities and a shower for rinsing off are available to visitors above the sunbathing lawn.
