City opens accommodation for displaced persons at the former SC 26 stadium

Up to 80 people are accommodated and cared for there

This week, the city of Bocholt is opening the newly built accommodation for displaced persons from the Ukraine on the cinder pitch of the former SC 26 stadium "Am Kaisergarten". Up to 80 people can be accommodated and catered for there.

Planning for the construction of the additional facility began months ago as a precautionary measure in the wake of the wave of evacuations caused by the war. At the time, the city council informed the public about its plans for the new site at a local residents' meeting.

The facility consists of two residential units with currently 76 beds. The accommodation units have showers, toilets and a kitchenette. There are also four large rooms that are used as common rooms and for serving meals. Three sanitary containers with showers and toilets are also available.

According to current plans, families with children will mainly move into the mobile flats. However, it cannot be ruled out that some individuals will also be accommodated there. Due to the dynamic situation and the announcements made by the district government in Arnsberg, the administration is expecting an increase in the number of allocations in the coming weeks. The city administration has sent a letter to residents in the immediate vicinity of the former stadium "Am Kaisergarten" informing them of the opening.

The city administration is asking the citizens of Bocholt to continue to show solidarity with the people fleeing the war. "Solidarity is what we must continue to show in these troubled times. Solidarity with each other in Bocholt, but above all with the people from Ukraine who are seeking refuge here. Standing together remains the order of the day," appeal Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff and First City Councillor and Head of Social Affairs Thomas Waschki.
