Storm warning for Bocholt

From 10 p.m. Wednesday night (Feb. 16) to Thursday afternoon

Storm warning for Bocholt: From Wednesday night, February 16, 2022 from 10 p.m. until Thursday afternoon, the German Weather Service reports hurricane-like gusts with peak speeds up to 110/120 km/h.

The German Weather Service warns: "Gale-force winds with speeds between 80 km/h (22m/s, 44kn, Bft 9) and 110 km/h (31m/s, 60kn, Bft 11) from the west. Near showers and in exposed areas, gale-force winds up to 120 km/h (33m/s, 64kn, Bft 12) must be expected. In the night to Thursday gusts between 80 and 100 km/h initially from southwest, later west. With cold front passage, temporary gusts up to 120 km/h. On Thursday morning, temporary weakening of the wind, but during the day again widespread gusts between 90 and 110 km/h, near showers also around 120 km/h from the west." Indications of possible dangers

Citizens are asked to be especially vigilant: Avoid forests and parks; trees may be uprooted and roofs damaged. Please pay special attention to falling branches, roof tiles or objects. Close windows and doors, secure outdoor objects. It is recommended to keep your distance from buildings, trees, scaffolding and power lines. And if possible, avoid being outdoors.

Schools remain closed

Classes throughout the state and therefore also at Bocholt schools are cancelled due to the storm warning on Thursday, schools remain closed(press release of the Ministry of Education NRW).

Appeal to daycare parents

Kita children and children in day care should also be cared for at home if possible. Family Minister Stamp says: "It is expected that there will be uprooting of trees and there is talk of heavy storms. We don't want to put children at risk and that's why my urgent appeal to all parents to please look after the kindergarten children in daycare or daycare at home tomorrow."
