The state is providing half a million euros to support the development of Suderwick's town centre

District President Andreas Bothe presents two grant notifications in Münster

Bocholt. The town of Bocholt is to receive financial support for the redevelopment of the town centre in Suderwick. In Münster, District President Andreas Bothe presented two grant notifications totalling 500,000 euros to Mayor Christian Mangen and Head of Urban Planning Dave Welling. With this grant from the state programme for structural and rural development, the town of Bocholt has secured the largest sum in the entire administrative district this year.

The approved budget will be allocated in equal parts to two key projects under the Suderwick town centre development plan. 250,000 euros each has been earmarked for the fundamental redevelopment of Sporker Straße and for the modernisation of Suderwick village square. The council's plans aim to enhance the district's centre, noticeably improve the quality of life in public spaces and expand green spaces. Particular emphasis is placed on adapting the village environment to the effects of climate change, for example by reducing land sealing and introducing climate-resilient planting.

A key feature of the project is close coordination with the directly adjacent Dutch neighbouring town of Dinxperlo. The measures in Suderwick tie in directly with the local 'Centrumsvisie Dinxperlo' initiative, which aims to enhance the appearance and functionality of the centre as well as the shared Hellweg. The use of coordinated materials, such as red clinker paving laid in a row pattern and a stylistically uniform "long bench%$, creates a visible link across the national border.

""In this way, the historical and everyday ties between the two border communities become even more clearly evident in the streetscape, whilst at the same time Suderwick's own character is preserved," explains Head of Urban Planning Dave Welling.

The local authority consulted the public on the plans in advance at a public information event. In the spring, local associations were asked for their views so that the needs of village life could be taken into account as fully as possible, thereby enabling the plans to be further developed. Construction work on the project is scheduled for 2027 and 2028. In total, the town is investing around 3.2 million euros in the enhancement - supported by funding from the NRW programme "Structural and Village Development".
