Social activist gives lecture in Bocholt // Discussion with students

On Thursday, May 12, the social activist and author Ali Can will be a guest in the Drosselsaal of the Bocholt textile factory, Industriestrasse. He will speak on the topic of "Opportunities of voluntary commitment for integration" from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In cooperation with the Integration Council and the Integration Office of the City of Bocholt, the association Jugendhilfe und soziale Integration e.V.. jusina for short, is organizing the event as part of the project "IHELP.
Opportunities and challenges of intercultural encounters
After the welcome by Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff, Ali Can will give a 45-minute talk on the opportunities and challenges of intercultural encounters. He will give examples on topics such as everyday racism and the reduction of prejudices, as well as on how diversity can be lived and respect can be promoted. He will also address the new challenges arising from dealing with the war in Ukraine.
Panel discussion
Following his lecture, Ali Can will discuss with stakeholders from schools, associations and the Integration Council on the podium. Raimund Stroick will moderate the discussion.
Invited are students, committed people and actors from associations, organizations, politics and educational institutions, but also the interested people of Bocholt.

Background
Ali Can is the initiator of the "Hotline for Concerned Citizens." He gained national and international notoriety in 2018 with the hashtag #MeTwo. At the beginning of 2019, the "VielRespektZentrum" he founded opened in Essen.
IHELP is a project of jusina, funded by Aktion Mensch. Young people, especially those with international family histories, can build a network and make personal contacts and friendships in Bocholt. In addition to the community and personal development benefits, the young people receive a certificate after their involvement that they can add to their job applications.
