"Snack yourself smart light" - Workshops set an example against racism

Interactive workshops for school groups // Raising awareness of the issues of racism and discrimination

The "Snack dich schlau light" event on 23 April raised awareness of racism, anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism among a total of 35 pupils from school-without-racism groups. In two interactive workshops at LernWerk, the participants explored different forms of discrimination - using all their senses.

Cultural exchange during intergenerational cooking

Intergenerational cooking continues // Senior citizens and young people meet up to cook together

Following the conclusion of the IHELP project last year, the organisers of the intergenerational cooking event decided to continue the format. Senior citizens and young people met at the family education centre for this year's first intergenerational cooking event.

Lutz Jäkel talks about hope, suffering - and new beginnings // Almost 100 guests in the assembly hall of the comprehensive school

Around 100 interested guests accepted the invitation from the Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg adult education centre, the volunteer agency and the integration office of the city of Bocholt to attend an impressive evening lecture by Middle East expert and journalist Lutz Jäkel. Entitled "The New Syria - Journey to a Country in Upheaval", he took his audience on a personal and harrowing journey through a country in upheaval.

Breaking the fast at the Lernwerk: "Wonderful example of togetherness in Bocholt"

Breaking the fast together promotes intercultural dialogue // Over 100 guests

Bocholt - The city of Bocholt has now organised a joint breaking of the fast in the Lernwerk, which was attended by over 100 representatives of local organisations. The focus of the evening was on interreligious and intercultural dialogue. The aim of the event organised by the city was to actively strengthen social cohesion through personal encounters.

Heritage language teaching: utilising the potential of bilingualism

Primary and secondary schools are currently in the process of registering for the so-called heritage language lessons (HSU) for the coming school year 2026/2027. Pupils will receive a letter from the respective school and the corresponding form.

Bocholt awards integration prize

German-Syrian association and Kurdish children's choir honoured // Five applicants // 30 years of the Foreigners' Advisory Council - founding members honoured

The city of Bocholt, together with the city's Integration Council, has awarded the Integration Prize for the second time (after 2023). This prize recognises individuals and groups who are particularly committed to the city community. The prize is endowed with a total of 2,000 euros.

Bocholters pray together for peace

On Saturday, 15 November, an interfaith, public prayer for peace will take place on Benölkenplatz in Bocholt. It will begin at 17:00. Afterwards, all participants are invited to a get-together in the canteen of the St-Georg-Gymnasium with biscuits and hot drinks.

Closing ceremony of the Intercultural Week 2025 takes place tomorrow

Intergenerational cooking at the end of IHELP

IHELP project comes to an end after five years // Intergenerational cooking will continue

At the end of the IHELP project on 30 June 2025, young people and senior citizens with and without an international family history met with the project participants in the multi-generational house of the family education centre to cook together.
