FW Bocholt: Fatalities in accident with regional train on Bocholt-Wesel line

Bocholt. On Thursday at noon, shortly before 1 p.m., a fatal accident occurred on the railway line between Wesel and Bocholt. A 78-year-old female motorist from Bocholt was hit sideways by the regional train, which was on its way to Bocholt station, while crossing the ungated level crossing "Döringer Feld" and was dragged about 100 metres across the track bed. The victim succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene of the accident despite the immediate alerting of the rescue services. No other persons were injured. In addition to the police, 49 rescue workers from the fire brigade and the rescue service of the city of Bocholt were deployed. The victim of the accident was trapped in the car due to the heavy impact. The body was recovered by fire brigade personnel.
At the time of the accident, 29 passengers were on their way to Bocholt. They were uninjured, as were the train attendant and the train driver, who suffered a shock and received emergency counselling. The railway line was closed.
