Lively exchange during the exhibition opening at the Stadtsparkasse
Exhibition opening with lecture on the perception of gender justice
The travelling exhibition #EUwomen Women in European Politics. Successes, Opportunities and Hurdles was opened on 21 September at the Stadtsparkasse on Neutorplatz. The participants had a lively discussion with the speaker Dominik Hirndorf about his studies on gender equality. The exhibition can be seen until 6 October at the Stadtsparkasse during regular opening hours.
The exhibition on the topic of women in European politics was opened in a pleasant atmosphere at the Stadtsparkasse on 21 September. Sonja Wießmeier from EUROPE DIRECT Bocholt and Astrid Schupp as Equal Opportunities Officer had invited to the opening.
Topic of the exhibition
The public perception is mostly about the so-called founding fathers of the EU. Alongside them, committed women were active in laying the foundations of the European Union and have shaped European policy from the very beginning. The exhibition #EUwomen presents women who have successfully made and are making politics in and for Europe.
It brings pioneers of a united Europe and currently active women in European politics to the fore. In doing so, it does not avoid unpleasant questions: What opportunities do women have to play a decisive role in shaping European politics, and what hurdles still have to be cleared for full and self-evident equality to come about in the European Union with the individual member states.
The exhibition includes a lectern on which texts on political discourses, such as speeches and hearings, can be found. There, interested citizens can write down comments and suggestions in a "guest book".
Authors of the exhibition
#EUwomen was conceived as a travelling exhibition by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Germany and is now also available to the citizens of the city of Bocholt until 6 October.
The lecture
Dominik Hirndorf from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation presented two studies he had designed in connection with the topic of gender equality. Among other things, it is about how gender equality is perceived in the five EU member states Germany, Italy, Croatia, Poland and Sweden. The result of the study is that discrimination against women is perceived as a problem. Young women in particular experience discrimination because of their gender. It is noticeable that the age group 18-25 years agrees less with prejudices and stereotypes than older age groups. After the lecture, there was a lively discussion about the results of the studies.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 09:00 - 16:30
