NRW is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. At the same time, the German-British Society is marking the "80 years of friendship between North Rhine-Westphalia and the United Kingdom. Dr Birgit Bujard will provide a historical context and look ahead at the LernWerk. The event, which includes refreshments, is free of charge. Educational Leave: Deeply Rooted - History - Present - Future

The five-day educational holiday organised by VHS Bocholt from 16 to 20 November combines remembrance culture, cross-border history and practical democracy education. Through the 'Stolpersteine' memorial stones in Aalten, workshops on populism and intercultural sensitivity, and insights into local community involvement, the programme focuses on attitudes, dialogue and moral courage.

Cross-Border Ambassadors: Calling for participants for 2026/27

The EU's Cross-Border Ambassadors initiative is entering its fourth round: up to ten young people with links to a border region will be selected to represent their communities, work directly with the European Commission and develop youth-led content on cross-border issues over a period of six months. German-Dutch Border Talks: A visit to the float builder for the flower parade in Lichtenvoorde

Interested members of the public are invited to a guided tour on 2 September 2026 in the run-up to the flower parade in Lichtenvoorde. Over a drink, those attending will be able to find out from several float builders about the construction of the special floats for the flower parade. Registrations are now open; participation is free of charge.

Pupils on the European Studies course at Mariengymnasium received answers to these and other questions at a special event held as part of the nationwide series "Diplomacy in Schools".

Successful "Brit Pic" at the kubaai site

British-style Münsterland Picnic Days on 21 June 2026 // British delicacies and background music

On 21 June 2026, the "Brit Pic" took place for the sixth time on the lawn in front of the LWL Textilwerk Museum in Bocholt as part of the Münsterland Picnic Days. Around 40 people enjoyed an English-style picnic together, with tea, sandwiches and other British delicacies they had brought along. Colourfully decorated hats and British-style clothing were expressly encouraged.
