City anniversary: children's book "BOKELTJE" published

800 years of Bocholt to read, experience and participate now for 12.90 euros for purchase

Bocholt is celebrating its 800th birthday: The little people of Bocholt should not miss out in the anniversary year either. As a further campaign for the 800th anniversary of the city, the organizing team has now had a children's book printed with the history of the city, told in a way suitable for children. Author Christiane Leesker and illustrator Kristina Fransbach have created a completely new character for the city of Bocholt especially for this occasion. Bokeltje, the green beech sprite.

8 adventures from 8 centuries

He is up to mischief with the people of Bocholt and experiences adventures in the Bocholt of the past centuries in eight stories. On a journey through the town, children (and their readers) learn what Bokeltje has to do with the town seal, with Israhel van Meckenem, the tree silk spinners, the building of the town hall, the fire in the tower of St. George's Church and the Bocholt fair. For each of the eight centuries of the city's history there is a Bokeltje adventure with the appropriate information pages at the end. On these, special terms are explained and the city's history is conveyed to the young readers and listeners. There are also many hands-on pages with puzzles and games.

The individual adventures are illustrated in a map of the city and on a timeline, so that the reader can visit the places in the city in Bokeltje's footsteps.

On the occasion of the sales launch, Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff now handed over the first book to the birthday child Lotta in a ceremonial setting on the Kubaai playground at the Textile Museum.

This book is also suitable for teaching local history at elementary schools in the Bocholt city area. "It makes teaching even more fun," reports Jule Wanders, head of the cultural office, enthusiastically.

Sales points

The children's book is now available for 12.90 euros at the Tourist Information Office (Nordstrasse 14) and the municipal library (Hindenburgstrasse 5) and the bookstores "Seitenblick" (Crispinusplatz 28) and "Mayersche" (Berliner Platz 2). It can also be borrowed from the municipal library.
