The new Aasee cycle paths are ready

Asphalted paths replace red ash // Comfortable riding for skaters and cyclists

They disappeared a few days ago: The barriers along the new cycle path at the Aasee. In the past four months, comfortable asphalt paths were built there - the red ash is now history.

The route around the Bocholt Aasee is now much more pleasant for both cyclists and skaters: the G. Mesken company has applied a new asphalt surface there on behalf of the city of Bocholt. At the same time, the paths were widened and aligned with the existing verges. They are now about three metres wide on average.

Work on the approximately 3,400 metre long circular path started in mid-June of this year. Originally, a schedule until the end of the year was planned - now, however, the construction work could be finished much earlier. This is another reason why the city of Bocholt is currently assuming that the costs will also be significantly lower than the estimated funds of 860,000 euros.

Daniel Zöhler, the city's building officer, is enthusiastic about the result: "The asphalting of the Aasee cycle path is a project component of the mobility concept that is close to my heart and that of many Bochol residents," says Zöhler. The red ash is a nuisance and "now finally history". Zöhler: "Since we know that many inline skaters also want to use this route, we would like to explicitly open the cycle path for inline skaters as well."

Goal: cycle route from Hochfeld to Lowick

The new cycle path now meets the requirements of a modern cycle route. The goal of the city of Bocholt and an important component of the mobility concept is the gradual expansion of attractive cycle paths and cycle routes in the city area. The cycle path at the Aasee is to become part of an east-west cycle route from Bocholt-Hochfeld to Lowick. A next construction phase of this cycle route will be the connection between the sunken bridge and Neutorplatz. The goal is to start construction next year.
