FW Bocholt: Roof truss fire in apartment block - Bocholt fire brigade prevents the fire from spreading
Bocholt (ots) -
The Bocholt fire brigade was informed of a fire in the roof area of an apartment block by several emergency calls at around 7.10 pm on Wednesday evening. When the first emergency services arrived, thick smoke was already billowing out of the roof truss. All residents were able to leave the building in time and unharmed.
The fire brigade immediately initiated extensive extinguishing measures - both from the inside and from the outside using the turntable ladder. Several teams wearing breathing apparatus were deployed at the same time to prevent the fire from spreading further.
As the operation progressed, the volunteer fire brigade and the special task force for rescue at height were also alerted. Together with the special forces, parts of the roof construction and a photovoltaic system were removed from the turntable ladder in order to extinguish hidden pockets of embers.
A total of 48 firefighters with 10 vehicles were deployed. The operation lasted until late in the evening. During the extinguishing work, the volunteer fire brigade provided basic protection for the urban area.
The police are investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
