CITY CYCLING 2025 - interim results at the halfway point

Kilometres can still be collected until 21 May 2025 // Measure distances online, add them or report them in writing

The first half of the CITY CYCLING 2025 campaign is over! With over 330,000 kilometres cycled so far, Bocholt is in first place nationwide among municipalities in the 50,000 - 100,000 inhabitants size category. Now it's time to pedal hard for the remaining period and continue collecting kilometres!

The three-week campaign period will run until Wednesday, 21 May 2025, with over 27,000 journeys by more than 2,500 cyclists covering almost 340,000 km for Bocholt as a cycling city (as of 12 May). A total of 280 teams have cycled in Bocholt so far, including over a fifth of the city councillors who have joined one of these teams.

"However, these figures are only snapshots and are constantly increasing", explains Sascha Terörde from the Climate Protection Unit, who is coordinating the project for the city this year. "The main aim is to predominantly use the bicycle as a means of transport and leave the car behind", he explains.

All CITY CYCLING participants can enter the kilometres they have cycled online at www.stadtradeln.de or record them directly in the CITY CYCLING app using GPS tracking - it is also possible to enter them at a later date. Any difficulties can be reported by sending an email to klimaschutz(at)bocholt(dot)de or by calling 02871 953-3002. In the event of problems, there is also the option of submitting completed written kilometre forms. These can be downloaded from the City of Bocholt website or requested by post.

All kilometres are counted up to 21 May - however, anyone who has registered during the campaign period can also add kilometres to their personal online calendar in the following seven days (up to 28 May) or have them added via the city of Bocholt.

About the STADTRADELN campaign

"CITY CYCLING" is a campaign of the "Climate Alliance", in which more than 1,800 cities, municipalities and districts in 28 countries have joined forces to protect the global climate. In Germany alone, hundreds of thousands of citizens, including many local politicians, will be cycling for three weeks in a row from May 2025. Together, they will collect cycle kilometres for "a good climate" and for increased cycling promotion in their respective local communities. The most bicycle-active local parliaments and municipalities nationwide and the most hard-working teams and cyclists locally are then determined.
