Issue of a certificate of no impediment to marriage

Do you have German citizenship and want to get married abroad?

If German nationals wish to marry abroad, they may be required to obtain a certificate of matrimonial capacity from Germany. In accordance with German law, this certifies that both fiancées are authorised to marry, whereby the submission of documents from both partners is required.

If both partners are German citizens, a single certificate of no impediment to marriage is sufficient for both.

The certificates of no impediment to marriage are issued as international documents.

You should clarify the need for a certificate of no impediment to marriage with the registry office responsible for your case abroad.

Please enquire by telephone or email in good time before your appointment as to which documents are required.
