New wave beds for the Bocholter Aasee lake

There are now new wave loungers at Bocholter Aasee that invite you to relax and unwind outdoors. In a joint initiative by the city of Bocholt and the Hohe Mark Nature Park, a total of six of the popular loungers have been installed in the Aasee area. The installation work was completed in November 2025 by employees of the waste disposal and service company (ESB).

As an association, the Hohe Mark Nature Park aims to preserve the region as an important recreational area and to promote leisure activities close to nature. As large parts of Bocholt's urban area belong to the nature park, the city council and the association work closely together to continuously improve the infrastructure for sustainable tourism.

The most recent result of this co-operation is the installation of three double wave loungers and three single wave loungers, which now ensure an increased quality of stay at the Aasee. Lisa Knuf, who supervised the project for the city of Bocholt, reports that the response from the public has already been very positive. "The loungers are already being used intensively by many Bocholt residents, especially in the current spring weather", says Knuf.

The realisation of this project was made possible by pooling the expertise and resources of both partners. The loungers offer a special level of comfort and blend harmoniously into the landscape to offer visitors a place of peace and quiet.

Dagmar Beckmann from the Hohe Mark Nature Park emphasises that cyclists in particular can enjoy a well-earned break on the new loungers. "Our popular Hohe Mark cycle route leads directly past the new locations", says Beckmann.

80 per cent of the costs were financed via the funding budget for the Hohe Mark Nature Park from the "FöNa" of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Where are the wave loungers?

There are a total of six new wave loungers in the Bocholter Aasee area. Three single loungers can be found on the south-western shore of Lake Aa in the area of the surfers' bay. Double loungers can be found to the north-west and north of the lake, and another double lounger is located "with a view of the sunset" in the bathing bay.
