Public participation online: Suderwick clubs asked about village square planning

Impulses needed for the village square // Clubs in Suderwick should play an active role in shaping it

The city of Bocholt is pressing ahead with plans for the village centre in Suderwick and is also relying on the expertise of the local community. From 20 April to 29 May 2026, local associations are invited to submit their comments on the planned design of the village square. The aim is to optimise the square to meet the needs of Suderwick village life.

New wave beds for the Bocholter Aasee lake

Joint project of the Hohe Mark Nature Park and the city of Bocholt

There are now new wave loungers at Bocholter Aasee that invite you to relax and unwind outdoors. In a joint initiative by the city of Bocholt and the Hohe Mark Nature Park, a total of six of the popular loungers have been installed in the Aasee area. The installation work was completed in November 2025 by employees of the waste disposal and service company (ESB).

On Tuesday, 24 February 2026, Renate Wirth will present "er Wolfshund", her latest Lower Rhine crime thriller, bringing suspense and regional colour to Bocholt City Library. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the homepage and at the adult education centre office as well as at the library. A box office will also be set up.

Bocholt's Suderwick district is getting a facelift: the urban planning office WoltersPartner from Coesfeld has already drawn up an initial concept for the redesign of Suderwick in 2023/2024. There will be an information evening for citizens in the coming week.

Landmark of textile history: Herding chimney being renovated

Work to be completed in June // Building currently scaffolded

The renovation of the historic chimney of the former Herding spinning mill on the kubaai site has been underway since the beginning of April. The aim of the project is to secure the relic from the heyday of Bocholt's textile industry as a permanent landmark and integrate it into the new city quarter. The work is expected to be completed by mid-June.

On Thursday, 19 September, a public city walk will be held as part of the public participation process, followed by a planning workshop. Citizens are invited to take part and contribute ideas. The meeting is at 6 pm on the village square.

The city of Bocholt is now adapting its concept for city centre design - the so-called "integrated urban development concept (ISEK) - for the western city centre to the new funding guidelines. Citizens can submit ideas and suggestions via the city's participation portal from Monday 8 April to 5 May.
