Blue-green algae: Aasee lake in Bocholt remains closed

The Aasee lake in Bocholt remains closed. This was announced by the city of Bocholt after the results of the water samples were available. According to the results, there is a high concentration of blue-green algae. This can lead to health risks for humans and animals. Swimming and water sports are therefore prohibited. Dog owners should also keep their animals away from the water.

Although the toxicity, i.e. the toxicity value, is below the limit value, the chlorophyll a value is exceeded, which means that blue-green algae are present in high concentrations in the water. This results in a visible green colouration. This is associated with a low visibility depth. Especially in the bathing bay, this can make rescue operations difficult. The water body therefore remains closed as a precaution. The red flag has been hoisted, and warning signs around the lake inform passers-by.

The bathing season in the Aasee ends in mid-September. Whether the lake can be reopened is currently open. The city continues to have water samples taken regularly and is keeping a close eye on developments.
