Powerful show about chocolate

"Soirée Chocolat" on Friday, 21 April 2023, at 7:30 pm in the Aula Gesamtschule // With tastings // Book tickets now

On Friday, 21 April, the VHS Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg invites you to an event highlight. In a lavishly produced live multivision, the book author Jürgen Bluhm follows the magic of chocolate into the tropical rainforests of America - including sweet tastings. The event begins at 7:30 pm in the auditorium of the comprehensive school (Rheinstraße 4). Tickets are available online at www.vhs-bocholt.de or at the box office for 9 euros or 7.50 euros.

"The world can be explained with chocolate. It can be experienced sensually and is full of surprises. For me, that's what makes the subject so appealing," says author Bluhm. His live stage programme tells of a journey to the origins of chocolate and takes us around the world. In the home of the cocoa trees, he traces the world's most precious seeds and the invention of their refinement. In the process, he follows the central question: Can chocolate save the world?

On four stages of enjoyment, the actors behind chocolate are introduced and one learns how simple it can be to contribute to the well-being of our fellow human beings far away and to the protection of their fragile environment. The sensory journey also invites you to sniff, touch and taste and lets you understand how small cocoa beans are turned into artisan chocolates.

The visually stunning lecture, illustrated with pictures by renowned photojournalists, is a declaration of love to the biodiversity of the tropical rainforests, which is worth protecting, and a homage to the people to whom we owe the pleasure of chocolate. Chocolate tastings during the lecture and a "sweet break" are included.

The history of chocolate is told in an impressive and exciting way. At the same time, "Soirée Chocolat" conveys many aspects for sustainable development using chocolate as an example - because it is also about fair trade, climate change, UN Development Goals Agenda2030 and global neighbourhood.
