Film classic "2001: A Space Odyssey" is a complete success

100 cinema fans see the "special film" at the Kinodrom in compliance with Corona regulations // Series continues on March 8

For the 45th anniversary of the series "The Special Film", the Department of Culture and Education now presented the film classic "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the Kinodrom Bocholt. Numerous visitors already appeared for the film introduction with Annette Oehmen and Oliver Brenn.

Since 1977 the film series "KINO Bocholt - the special film" takes place. On the initiative of the Department of Culture and Education of the City of Bocholt, selected films are shown every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in cooperation with the Kinodrom Bocholt. The aim is to present exceptional films - which are not usually shown in the cinemas of Bocholt - to an interested audience of any age. In the past 45 years, approximately 900 films have been shown that would otherwise probably not have made it into Bocholt's movie theaters.

Milestone in film history

On February 8, the visitors certainly went into the classic film "2001: A Space Odyssey" with different expectations; but not everyone probably expected such a visually stunning and outstanding film. Before the film began, First City Councilor Thomas Waschki spoke a few words. During his greeting, he told about how he had experienced the film in the 1980s. The first city councilor could remember especially well the numerous discussions after the film, which would leave a lot of room for interpretation. In an introduction to the film, Annette Oehmen told the audience that the film, which is almost 146 minutes long, is virtually a silent movie: in the film, only about 40 minutes are spoken, for 50 minutes there is only music, and the remaining 60 minutes are shown only with various sounds or even silence.

About the plot

The classic movie describes a research trip of five scientists to Jupiter. The reason for the journey is a mysterious black monolith that seems to influence human evolution. The film, which was nominated for four Oscars, gave the viewers a lot of room for their own interpretations. It was about existentialism, human evolution, technology and artificial intelligence. Or was it about much more?
