The Old Oak is an old pub in a small village in the north-east of England. Today, only former miners who feel betrayed and excluded by the system meet there. But just the regulars are not enough for pub owner T.J. Ballantyne to save the place. The arrival of refugees from Syria brings unrest to the village and meets with little understanding from the locals. Only he faces the refugees without prejudice and befriends the young Syrian woman Yara. Together they plan to resolve the tensions between the two camps and save the pub.
