New bridge installed on Uhlandstraße

Steel structure assembled on Friday // Prefabrication at the plant in Ahaus

A new pedestrian bridge was successfully installed on Uhlandstraße in Bocholt today. The approximately 22 metre long steel structure was installed in just a few hours with the help of a crane.

On Friday morning, 6 February 2026, a new, approximately 22-metre-long steel bridge was lifted into place on Uhlandstraße. The structure consists of two sections, each weighing around 2.5 tonnes. Prefabrication at the factory of the contractor, Wansing & Partner from Ahaus, meant that the assembly time on site was reduced to a minimum. Shortly after delivery in the early morning, the segments were precisely placed on the prepared foundations.

"The bridge elements were already pre-assembled together with the railing construction, so that complete fall protection was guaranteed immediately after lifting", reports Bernhard Grünebeck, Technical Managing Director of Wansing & Partner. Despite the adverse weather conditions with rain, the assembly went smoothly and the work was already completed in the morning - the remaining work will follow on Monday.

Technically, the new structure fulfils modern requirements in terms of durability and load-bearing capacity. As steel expands at high temperatures in summer, the bridge was equipped with a special plain bearing construction. "This technology enables the supporting structure to absorb thermal changes in length of up to three centimetres without stress", says Grünebeck.
