Born as a boy with the male name Aitor, the eight-year-old would rather be addressed as Cocó or Lucia. Especially the women from three generations of this family have to question their values and attitudes against this background and learn to accept new things. In this sensitive family drama about a little trans girl, the director and scriptwriter succeed in creating a precisely observed debut work that addresses the complex topic of the search for one's own gender identity in childhood.
The drama "20,000 Species of Bees" premiered in the competition of the Berlinale 2023. Nine-year-old actress Sofía Otero became the youngest performer in the film festival's 73-year history to win the Silver Bear for Best Acting Performance.

About the special film campaign
The film series "KINO Bocholt - der besondere Film" has existed since 1977 as a cooperation between the Department of Education and Culture and the Kinodrom Bocholt. The aim is to present unusual films - which would otherwise not be shown in Bocholt - to an interested audience of all ages at a reasonable price. As a rule, selected films are shown every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.
