Opening of the marketplace in Dinxperlo
Redesign of the town centre in Dinxperlo // Grand opening on 11 July 2025
Work on the market square in the centre of Dinxperlo began a good two years ago. Last Friday, the redesigned Prins Clausplein was officially opened.
Deputy Mayor Elisabeth Kroesen from Bocholt, together with Ted Kok, Head of Finance in Aalten, set the newly created water features in motion. The municipality of Aalten invested a total of around ten million euros in the comprehensive upgrading of the town centre. The measure is part of a larger plan for the future, which also includes the neighbouring streets Heelweg and Allee. The aim: climate adaptation, quality of life and amenity value.
Cross-border cooperation
In close coordination with Dinxperlo, Suderwick is now also planning the redesign of its town centre - with lots of greenery, shady areas and sustainable materials. What is particularly remarkable is that the town of Bocholt is financing the project itself, which is considered unusual in the Dutch context.
The cooperation between the two towns is considered exemplary: regular meetings, cross-lingual teams and joint action characterise the project.
A lively meeting place for both sides
A look at everyday life shows just how well the concept works: the formerly sealed square is now a lively meeting place. People sit and relax on the new benches, children play in the water feature and visitors from Suderwick and the surrounding area enjoy the new quality of life - for example after the weekly market or on a walk.
