Bocholt museum exhibits on display at special exhibition in Herne

Exhibits from the Bocholt City Museum can now be seen in a large special exhibition at the Museum for Archaeology and Culture of the Landschaftsverbsand Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) in Herne. To the delight of Bocholt's museum director Lisa Resing.

Since the beginning of September, the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture has been presenting a new special exhibition entitled "Modern Times. Archaeological finds of the modern age and their stories". Using 100 exhibits, the exhibition tells exciting stories of the last two centuries and shows visitors the significance of modern archaeology.

Included: the fragments of a decalogue tablet from the destroyed Bocholt synagogue as well as improvised cutlery of prisoners of war from the former prison camp STALAG VI F from the collection of the Bocholt City Museum.

"I am pleased that despite the temporary closure of the museum for construction reasons, we are given the opportunity to present special features of our Bocholt collection to the public and make them accessible within the framework of this special exhibition," Bocholt Museum Director Lisa Resing said happily during her visit to Herne. In the accompanying exhibition catalogue, too, the Bocholt history behind the objects on display will be dealt with in detail in separate essays.

Resing was impressed by the exhibition design: "Through six different categories accompanied by media tablets, the exhibition allows visitors a very personal approach to the topics presented. The entire exhibition space can be explored in many different ways. There is something new and exciting to discover at every turn."

But it wasn't just the exhibition layout that caught her eye positively: "The sustainability concept of the exhibition also shows how climate awareness and resource conservation can work and look in cultural institutions."

Exhibition still on until August 2024

Until 18 August 2024, the special exhibition "Modern Times. Archaeological finds of modernity and their stories" together with the Bocholt exhibits can be seen at the LWL Museum for Archaeology and Culture in Herne (Europaplatz 1). More information on the website of the "Modern Times" exhibition.
