Big St. Martin's procession in the city centre on Tuesday

Bocholt - Next Tuesday, 7 November, the time has come again: From 5.15 p.m., up to 3,000 schoolchildren from Bocholt will gather on Berliner Platz to parade through the city centre of Bocholt, led by St. Martin on his horse.

The traditional event, which took place for the first time in 1910, is the oldest St. Martin's procession in Westphalia and a highlight of Bocholt's calendar of events.

The children sing along behind St. Martin on his horse, carrying lanterns they have made themselves or the traditional Runkel torches. Bright children's eyes and cheerful singing create a great atmosphere in Bocholt's city centre, which thrills many spectators every year.

As every year, the St. Martin's procession is supported by numerous volunteers, teachers and music groups who accompany the pupils on their way.

The procession ends in front of the Historic Town Hall, where all participating children receive a St. Martin's bag filled with fresh fruit, biscuits and a small sweet.

The Bocholt inner city St. Martin's procession is organised by the Verein für Heimatpflege e.V. in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Education of the City of Bocholt. The organisers are proud to hold this traditional event in Bocholt year after year and cordially invite all citizens to participate as well.
