Two new GPs take over practices in Bocholt: Dr Khaled Abuhalaweh and Dr Ioan-Bogdan Niculici each took over medical care at two central locations in October. The city of Bocholt officially welcomed both of them and is pleased about the strengthening of the medical infrastructure. Both doctors will continue their work with existing teams and familiar contact persons.
Dr Khaled Abuhalaweh has been running the practice at Sertürnerstraße 1 since 1 October 2025, taking over GP care from Dr Samer Ladkany, who will continue to work as an employed doctor in the team. During the welcome visit, First City Councillor Björn Volmering, Lisa Knuf from the mayor's office and Sarah Underberg, Network Manager at Ärztenetz BOHRIS e.V., praised the new practice owner's decision. The city sees the takeover as an important step towards securing medical care in the city in the long term.
Dr Abuhalaweh studied in Münster and worked in various specialist areas at Klinikum Westmünsterland in Bocholt and Stadtlohn, most recently in the field of pneumology. The father of two lives with his family in Rhede and is optimistic about the new phase of his life. "I love this town and the people here - I'm looking forward to my time at the practice", says Dr Abuhalaweh.
There has also been a change at Kreuzstrasse since the beginning of October: Dr Ioan-Bogdan Niculici has been running Dr Winfried Feldberg's practice since October. By moving from Kurfürstenstrasse to modern premises at Kreuzstrasse 9, the new owner has created a central, easily accessible location for patients. The entire familiar team will remain in place, and a new colleague has also been recruited.
Dr Niculici has been rooted in the city's medical environment since moving to Bocholt in 2012. After working as a junior doctor and later as a senior doctor in the intensive care unit at St. Agnes Hospital, he specialised in internal medicine with a focus on intensive care medicine and gastroenterology. At the beginning of this year, he made a conscious decision to work as a GP. By taking over the practice from Dr Feldberg, who has retired, he is now continuing along this path. During his official visit, he was welcomed by First City Councillor Björn Volmering and Sarah Underberg from the BOHRIS e.V. doctors' network.
The city of Bocholt is delighted about the two practice takeovers and sees them as an important signal for the stability of GP care. The continuity of the teams and the close integration into local care networks will help to ensure that Bocholt remains an attractive location for medical professionals.
