Bocholt - Anyone visiting Liebfrauenplatz at the moment will probably be reminded of the city garden project as part of the town's 800th anniversary celebrations. Over the past few weeks, part of the area has been transformed into a city garden with a playground.

The temporary garden, which was created for the "Bocholt Gardens" campaign last spring, should actually have been dismantled before the summer. However, after a lot of positive feedback from Bocholt residents, the campaign was extended over the summer.

Now it's back, the garden on Liebfrauenplatz. It was planned by employees of the waste disposal and service company (ESB), which also carried out the construction in recent weeks. The square is due to be opened this month. "In addition to the play equipment and a sandpit for the little ones, we have also installed tables and benches for the older children," says Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff. "This will give Bocholt's Liebfrauenplatz a completely new quality of stay for all age groups."

Green concept for new city garden

A garden was also designed for the area. He is convinced that the result will be very popular with visitors to the city centre. In addition to beds of perennials and grasses, the design concept also includes a water feature as an eye-catcher - and play element on hot summer days.

The new city garden is accessible from two sides, and a ramp also allows people with disabilities to use it.

Financial support through funding programme

The city of Bocholt is receiving financial support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia from the "Immediate action programme to strengthen our inner cities and centres in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia". Almost 100,000 euros were invested, with a funding rate of 90 per cent.
