Sidewalks and bike lanes on Herzogstraße opened for traffic

Old bike path badly damaged by weather // More trees to come in spring

Cyclists can now use the comfortable new sidewalk and bike path on Herzogstraße. Between Kurfürstenstraße and Dinxperloer Straße, the paths have been completely renewed; the old paths had visibly suffered from weather and intensive use over the past three decades.

Now there is a black-paved bike lane and a red-paved sidewalk on each side of the roadway. Both are separated by a row of white studded stones to make the path easily usable for people with visual impairments.

The good cooperation with the residents despite the necessary restrictions was particularly positive, reports construction manager Malte Küpper from the Mesken construction company. "That it works as well as it did here is not a matter of course," says Daniel Zöhler, the city's building inspector.

Significant improvements have also been made to the existing planting beds and green spaces. The trees along Herzogstraße now have more space thanks to the redesign - and there are also plans to plant 25 new trees in the spring.
