Bake sale at the Israhel-van-Meckenem secondary school // 1940 euros for children and young people from Ukraine
Pupils from the Israhel-van-Meckenem secondary school in Bocholt have now collected almost 2,000 euros for Ukraine Aid in a fundraising campaign. The money was raised at an internal school cake sale and has now been donated to the Alliance for Families.
"With the start of the war, the topic of Ukraine was naturally discussed in all classes", says Simon Rademaker, teacher at the Israhel-van-Meckenem-Realschule. The question quickly arose as to what could be done specifically to help the refugees in their time of need.
"We then sold home-baked cakes in the canteen every Friday between the Easter and summer holidays", says teacher Christina Frericks. The pupils baked them at home every week and the ingredients were donated by their families. The school newspaper group also advertised the campaign with articles and posters. "Everyone took part and either baked or bought cakes", says teacher Mira Bartelt.
In the end, the proud sum of 1940 euros was raised. A cheque for the sum has now been presented by pupils from Year 9 to Lukas Kwiatkowski and Sabine Kürten from the social services department of the city of Bocholt. The money will go directly to the Bocholt Ukraine Aid organisation via the Alliance for Families and will benefit refugee children and young people in Bocholt, says Kwiatkowski.
