Play garden at Liebfrauenplatz stays longer

Very popular with Bochol residents // Permanent utilization concept in the works

The playground that was set up on Liebfrauenplatz as part of the anniversary campaign "Bocholt Gardens" continues to enjoy great popularity. This is also shown by the results of the survey carried out: around 60 percent of participants were in favor of a permanent change of use for the Liebfrauen parking lot. This is one of the reasons why the city of Bocholt has decided to leave the climbing frame and the surrounding city garden in place for the summer.

According to the survey, the need for inner-city green spaces as well as seating and playground equipment is particularly great. How this area of Liebfrauenplatz can also be used differently in the future on a permanent basis is currently being planned, the city of Bocholt informs.

"Due to the many positive feedbacks from politics and the population to the reuse of parking spaces and to the attractiveness and revitalization of the Liebfrauenviertel, the city administration has made everything possible to leave the temporarily installed play garden at Liebfrauenplatz over the summer and purchased the play equipment from the temporary use," says city building officer Daniel Zöhler. It should now become part of the permanent square concept. Likewise the horticulture enterprise Paetzold leaves the further built materials for the extended action period to the city of Bocholt and uses it only afterwards further. The ESB will take over the further maintenance of the square.

Creating a meeting place

For structural reasons, the garden cannot remain in its current form permanently, because the space under the temporary playground is still completely dry. For this reason, the city administration is currently working on a sustainable and permanent design concept for Liebfrauenplatz. In the future, at least part of the Liebfrauen parking lot will serve as a green urban space and playground. In addition, stationary traffic can thus be directed into the parking structures. At the same time, a meeting place for visitors and residents of the city center is to be created under the large green tree population.
