Music students and (G)Oldfingers give joint orchestra concert in Bocholt

Sunday, April 3, 2022, 5 p.m. at Drosselsaal TextilWerk // Admission free, but seat tickets must be reserved

After the traditional pre-Christmas concert had to be organized a few days before the performance without an audience and instead as a livestream, an orchestra concert in presence is now finally possible again. The youth orchestra of strings and the youth symphony orchestra, each under the direction of Gabriele Nußberger and the "(G)Oldfingers" project wind orchestra of the music school under the direction of Bodo Biermann will be present.

The youth orchestra will open the concert with "March" from Musique d'enfants" by Serge Prokofieff op. 65, an arrangement for string orchestra. After "Waltz No.1" from Tres Valses Poeticos by Enrique Granados and "Moderato" from Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by Johann Sebastian Bach, they will hand over the stage to the Youth Symphony Orchestra. The program includes a "Waltz" from Symphony No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich; the famous melody has been used many times as background music for cinema and television films. The program continues with "Star Wars" by John Williams and the "Farandole" from L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by George Bizet.

Audiences will be familiar with the "Wedding March" from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Felix Mendelssohn. The piece was performed in 1858 in honor of Prince Frederick of Prussia and his bride Princess Victoria of England and Ireland. Since then it has been heard traditionally, usually played on an organ, at the weddings of our time. Finally, the contribution of the Youth Symphony Orchestra ends with the work for string orchestra "Playful Pizzicato" from Simple Symphony by Benjamin Britten.

The second half of the concert will be performed by the "(G)Oldfingers" project wind orchestra of the music school under the direction of Bodo Biermann. The approx. 55 (G)Oldfingers will open their concert contribution with a "Firework", before they will present the biblical story about the city of Jericho to the audience in a musical way. In addition to a medley with excerpts from the music of the world-famous musical "Les Misérables", a colorful potpourri with well-known melodies from the 70s is also on the program.
