"Jugend musiziert": Music students from Bocholt achieve outstanding results

Christina Seggewiße (11) and Matilda Varone (12) are delighted with their 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the state competition.

Strong performances were shown by Bocholt music students at the state competition "Jugend musiziert" NRW, which took place from March 18 to 22, 2022 in Detmold: Christina Seggewiße secured a second prize with 22 points, Matilda Varone a third prize with 18 points.

From 24 regional competitions in North Rhine-Westphalia, the young people had qualified for the state competition in Detmold. Among them were two students from the Bocholt-Isselburg Music School. This time the competition took place again as a presence event.

In the solo violin competition Christina Seggewiße competed in age group 2 and Matilda Varone in age group 3. Christina, a student of music school teacher Priska Strümpfel, scored an outstanding 2nd prize with 22 points. Matilda Varone, student of Gabriele Nußberger, achieved an equally outstanding 3rd prize with 18 points. Both students were accompanied by music school teacher Christina Taczyk on the piano.

"It's crazy: Mozart is seemingly easy to play at first, then gets harder and harder as you practice, but that's only because you get stricter and stricter with yourself and with every note," 11-year-old Christina Seggewiße said of her participation in the competition. It's great when others say that you "play Mozart much better than days before," Christina says proudly. Her conclusion: "It was a great time and I still spent very nice days in Detmold with my family."

Matilda Varone also had a lot to report after her participation in the competition. "Jugend musiziert means stress for some: practicing, practicing and practicing again. For me, it means fun first and foremost, a lot of fun," said the 12-year-old. "I look forward to Jugend musiziert every time, not only because I can then pursue my passion, but also to hear afterwards in the feedback how I have developed."

For both of them, it was their first live participation in the state competition, as the competition was canceled in 2020 due to corona and last year was only possible in the form of video entries.

"The two of them can be very proud of their competition results," music school director Claudia Borgers said happily. "This wouldn't be possible without the support of their families and also the dedicated preparation of the teachers involved."
