Bocholt wants to show attitude on the "Day against Racism
Postcard campaign starts next Monday, March 21
"Show attitude" is this year's motto for the International Day against Racism, which will take place on Monday, March 21, 2022. It is a joint action of the Integration Council of the City of Bocholt with the VHS, the Hohe-Giethorst School, the Caritas Association Bocholt, the AWO Youth Migration Service Bocholt, the Working Group Asylum and the Josef School.
Is there actually still a need for such a day? Unfortunately, yes, because people in Germany have racist experiences every day, according to the organizers. "They are disadvantaged and discriminated against because of the color of their skin or other attributions," says Fatma Boland from the VHS. Racism manifests itself in many different ways: it can be hostility on the street, hate comments on the Internet or even attacks on institutions of people with an international family history. The current situation in Ukraine, for example, is contributing to an increase in attacks on Russian people in Germany.
Postcard campaign
"With the question 'Why do we still have to talk about racism?" we want to address the public," says Bruno Wansing, integration officer of the city. The organizers want to reach people in Bocholt with a postcard campaign. "They can answer the question on this postcard by scanning the QR code and sharing their thoughts," adds Carmen Wessels from the AWO. The deadline for entries is April 8, 2022, and the postcards will be distributed to all Bocholt schools next week, starting March 21, according to the city of Bocholt. The responses received will be included in a campaign in the fall of 2022.
