"Bocholt is(s)t bunt": New cookbook available from Saturday

15 international recipes and stories // Book available from Saturday at the tourist information office

From Saturday, the city of Bocholt and the Bocholt Integration Council invite you on a culinary trip around the world - because from then on, the cookbook "Bocholt is(s)t bunt" will be available at the Tourist-Info in Nordstraße. In it, Bocholters with international family histories present their favorite recipes from their home countries - and invite you to try them out.

What do a Lithuanian potato cake, a Syrian shakria, a Belgian beef goulash and a British lemon curd have in common? They all appear in the new cookbook "Bocholt is(s)t bunt". This has now been produced to mark the 800th anniversary of the town of Bocholt and the 60th anniversary of the recruitment agreement between Germany and Turkey. Also the conclusion of the city partnership with Akmene (Lithuania) on 14 May as well as further partnership anniversaries were welcome causes to include the culinary traditions of the friendly and partner cities in this book.

The idea came from the German-Turkish Society and the Integration Council of the City of Bocholt. In addition to the recipes typical of the country, there are also stories worth reading from Bocholters with international family histories. Furthermore, both the recipes and the corresponding stories are printed in German and the respective national language.

The recipes were selected by the people who have their say in the book. "These are both typical dishes of the country and recipes that were passed on by grandma or grandpa within the families," says Bruno Wansing, integration officer of the city of Bocholt, who was in charge of the project. Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff also contributed a recipe for Westphalian potato pancakes for the foreword.

Incidentally, the recipe book is particularly well-suited for cooking: Thanks to its spiral binding, it takes up very little space on the kitchen counter.

About the book

The cookbook "Bocholt is(s)t bunt" costs 15.49 euros and is available from Saturday, November 19, at the tourist information office at Nordstrasse 14. The project was supported by Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung (BEW), Gothaer Versicherung, Stadtsparkasse Bocholt and Volksbank Bocholt.
