Semester kick-off at the VHS: Richie Arndt brings the sound of the American South to Bocholt

With a concert, travelogue and photo show, the award-winning musician will whisk you away to the musical world of Tennessee and Alabama on 19 September

The Bocholt-Rhede-Isselburg Adult Education Centre will open the autumn semester with a special cultural event on Friday, 19 September 2025. The multi-award-winning guitarist, singer and storyteller Richie Arndt will be making a guest appearance in Bocholt with his programme "Tennessee & Alabama - A Journey to the Deep South of the USA" and presenting a fascinating mixture of concert, travelogue and photo show.

Arndt, who was already a guest in Bocholt with his successful programme "Mississippi - A Journey to the Deep South of the USA", is now continuing his musical pictorial journey. With earthy, authentic music, lively stories and impressive large-format photos, he takes the audience right into the cradle of American music. Stops on his journey include the legendary music cities of Memphis and Nashville, the centrepiece of the "Soundtrack of America", as well as Alabama, located deep in the South. There, listeners will encounter the roots of Southern Rock, the gospel music of Birmingham and the colourful Mardi Gras sounds of Mobile, a city that inspires with its French and Spanish traditions, joie de vivre and wealth of music.

"We are delighted that Richie Arndt is once again making a guest appearance in Bocholt. His way of weaving music, images and stories into an atmospheric overall experience makes his performances something very special", says Dr Susanne Paus, from the organisation team at Bocholt Adult Education Centre.

Director Isabel Testroet is also convinced: "We want to create a cultural highlight at the start of the semester that whets the appetite for new things, inspires and gets people talking to each other. This evening will do just that in a unique way."

The event will take place in the auditorium of the Städtische Gesamtschule Bocholt, Rheinstraße 4. Admission and reception begin at 19:00, the programme starts at 19:30. Tickets are available for 12 euros. It is recommended to register for a seat reservation via www.vhs-bocholt.de. Remaining tickets are available at the box office.
