"Night of the Libraries 2023" - Colourful programme at the City Library

Open day with numerous events for children and adults // Friday, 17 March 2023, 10-12 h and 14 - 22 h

On Friday, 17 March 2023, Bocholt City Library invites you to the "Night of the Libraries". The library will open its doors to all interested parties until late in the evening. In addition to the colourful supporting programme and a participatory reading for children, the author Christine Westermann will be a guest and present her new book.

On Friday, 17 March 2023, libraries - nationwide - once again invite all citizens to the "Night of the Libraries". The motto: "borderless!"

Borderless is the library as the place where people of all cultures and interests are welcome, regardless of salary and education. The library offers them boundless opportunities: Here they can inform themselves, learn, make use of cultural offers, educate themselves, try out new things and get into conversation with each other.

On this day, the municipal library will be open beyond its opening hours until late in the evening and invites all those interested to take part in the colourful supporting programme. Numerous participatory and cultural events will take place throughout the day. For example, from 5 to 7 p.m., children, parents and interested parties can try out the various robotics and gaming offerings of the municipal library. From BeeBots to Dash robots to VR glasses, there is something for all ages and interests. Of course, anyone who wants to can browse through the expanded literary holdings and make themselves comfortable reading in the seating areas.

Art and music lovers will also get their money's worth: from 5 p.m., an art exhibition by Bocholt artist Magdalena Freund will be shown in the house. The Bocholt Music School will provide background music from 6 to 8 pm. In addition, open library tours will be offered on the day from 7 to 10 pm. Of course, the entire team of the public library will be available to answer questions about the library and its services.

In addition to the supporting programme, there will be two (participatory) readings as highlights. For children, Dr. Doris Medlewitsch, author of various "Wissen macht AH" books, will be a guest and, in cooperation with the municipal library and the Junge Uni Bocholt, will organise a "Wissen macht AH!" hands-on reading in which many exciting everyday phenomena will be explored. In the evening, the municipal library, together with the library in the Bonhoeffer-Haus and the VHS Bocholt - Rhede - Isselburg, invites you to a reading by Christine Westermann. The author presents her new book "Die Familien der anderen" (The Families of Others) and chats from the literary sewing box. Tickets for both events are already sold out.
