New music school rehearsal room soon on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße
In operation from July // Used by five orchestras
After six months of remodelling, the music school's new rehearsal room on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße has now been completed. In future, the 371 square metre space will accommodate orchestras of up to 75 people.
The renovation focused on making adjustments for musical use and modernising the premises. In addition, a paved bicycle parking area with 92 parking spaces and a direct entrance to the rooms was created in front of the building.
A total of five orchestras and ensembles from the music school will use the rehearsal room: two string orchestras, three wind orchestras (Miniwinds, wind section, youth wind orchestra) and the Collegium musicum. In future, rehearsals will take place here every day of the week", announces music school director Claudia Borgers.
Regular rehearsal weekends are also planned, for example with the (G)Oldfingers - a project ensemble made up of former and current music students. "The room will be used exclusively by the orchestras so that the chairs, music stands and large instruments can remain permanently set up", says Head of Cultural Affairs Björn Volmering. "This eliminates the need for remodelling and leaves more time for rehearsals", says Volmering. In addition, the rehearsal room will be supplemented by several adjoining rooms, which will also provide sufficient space for further storage options.
The premises will be officially inaugurated on 10 July and handed over to the conductors and music students. Prior to this, instruments from the previous storage facility in the textile factory will be moved to the new location after the music school festival on 4 July and prepared for the rehearsals that follow.
