JUNGE UNI visits the Bocholt fire brigade

Bocholt - What is the correct behaviour in the event of a fire? How does a fire spread in a house? How does a typical fire brigade operation work? The JUNGE UNI students were given answers to these exciting questions during a visit to the Bocholt fire brigade.

Chief Fire Officer Torsten Dekker from the Bocholt fire brigade and his colleague Jens ten Barge gave the young people an overview of the work of the emergency services.

He used a model house to show the boys and girls how fire smoke spreads - and how the emergency services deal with it in the event of a fire. "The course is designed to sensitise young people to the topic of fire and smoke," explains Jennifer Engels, Head of JUNGE UNI in Bocholt.

Then it was time for the practical part: Torsten Dekker and Jens ten Barge used a smoke machine to show how smoke behaves in a stairwell. The boys and girls were then allowed to try out the use of a fire extinguisher for themselves in the fire station courtyard. "The practical application helps to lower the inhibition threshold for a real emergency," says Engels.

The YOUNG UNI in Bocholt is aimed at children and young people aged 6 to 18. An overview of the courses on offer and the organisation can be found online at www.juboh.de
