BOHJazz concert: 50th anniversary of the concert series

On 3 July, the BOHJazz concert celebrates its 50th anniversary. The trio of jazz guitarist Christian Hassenstein plays every two months at LernWerk. Reiner Witzel plays the saxophone as a guest soloist. Admission is free.
Düsseldorf saxophonist Reiner Witzel has been an established figure on the international jazz scene for many years. He studied in Cologne and New York, was a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and received numerous awards, including the Hennessy Jazz Award. Concert tours have taken him around the globe, with appearances at renowned festivals such as Montreux, San Jose, Odessa and Montevideo.
With his bands "Witzel's Venue" and "Three in the Red Circle", he has released several award-winning CDs with guests such as David Sanborn, Vernon Reid and Lew Soloff. Some of his productions reached the jazz charts in England and Japan. Witzel has worked with well-known jazz and pop artists, including Dave Liebman, Roger Cicero, Udo Lindenberg, Third World and the "Supremes".
He has also composed music for theatre and television and teaches saxophone at the music academies in Maastricht, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. He is also involved as a jazz festival organiser, advises instrument manufacturers and works as a photographer. He will soon be playing in Bocholt again for the 50th anniversary of BOHJazz.
