City Hall

Monthly cultural programme planned in the "Giethorst"

At the end of November, Mayor Thomas Kerkhoff hosted a citizens' consultation in the parish hall of the Christuskirche, which regularly takes the mayor to various neighbourhoods in Bocholt. The topics of discussion were varied and ranged from neighbourhood characteristics to social challenges.

Richard Förg, the city's social planner, emphasised the importance of neighbourhoods in social life. Some expressed concern about the loss of local meeting places such as the Edeka supermarket in Giethorst. One focus was on creating spaces for community experiences. Mayor Kerkhoff emphasised the importance of the topic and referred to the renovation and new construction of the Euregio-Gymnasium, where the school management showed interest in opening up to the social space.

The participants also hoped that information on events would be better publicised.

Traffic issues such as roadworks on Münsterstraße were also addressed. The idea of a traffic-calmed Münsterstraße met with differing opinions. Another point of discussion was the planned cycle highway, which is seen as a positive measure for mobility in the neighbourhood.

The mayor's meeting ended with a promising proposal from Pastor Axel Gehrmann: a monthly cultural event in the neighbourhood, supported by the neighbourhood management, among others. All those present showed interest and a willingness to participate.

The next "Bürgermeister-vor-Ort" event has already been scheduled for 16 January at 5.30 pm at the Handwerksmuseum in Fildeken/Rosenberg. Topics can be submitted to buergermeister-vor-ort(at)bocholt(dot)de.
