Citizens' petition Bocholt: Initiative submits 3,985 signatures
The initiators of the citizens' petition opposing the construction of a refugee shelter in the Biemenhorst district of Bocholt have submitted 3,985 signatures to the Bocholt city administration in due time. The city of Bocholt is now checking the submitted signatures for legal validity.
If at least 3,511 signatures were valid, the petition would be admissible and a referendum could be held. This will be decided at the council meeting on 30 August 2023, when the issue will be discussed.
In the case of a referendum, which would take place on a Sunday in autumn, all eligible voters in Bocholt would then be called upon to vote "yes" or "no" on the question of whether or not refugee accommodation should be built in Biemenhorst.
