DEMENSCH exhibition in the City

Poster

The regional association of Alzheimer's societies from NRW describes the approach of a touring exhibition now also to be seen in Bocholt with artworks by cartoonist Peter Gaymann as follows: "Dementia and humour: does it fit? A much too serious subject! Or does a humane approach to people with dementia thrive on humour? Dementia is a way of life for many people. We have to learn to live with dementia. Social expert and gerontologist Prof. Dr. Thomas Klie and artist and cartoonist Peter Gaymann are convinced that this is a cultural challenge. That's why the two of them started together ten years ago to depict this disease in a humorous setting - without losing sight of the seriousness of the subject and yet evoking a twinkle in the viewer's eye. Her declared aim is to sensitise people to the challenges of dementia. In addition, the exhibition can be used to create a network and offer support for caring relatives.

Travelling exhibition in shops in Bocholt city centre

Accordingly, from 1 - 29 March 2023, a total of 12 artworks from the DEMENSCH series by cartoonist Peter Gaymann will be displayed in the shop windows of nine businesses in Bocholt's city centre. With the exhibition of the works, the Bocholt Dementia Network wants to give people a humorous view of the disease and, above all, to make those affected and caring relatives aware of support services.

Immobilien- und Standortgemeinschaft Altstadt Bocholt e.V. activates nine retailers

The following businesses from the ISG Altstadt Bocholt will be taking part and will hang/place one or two works of art in the shop window: Orthopädietechnik Kampshoff, Stadtsparkasse Bocholt, Freiwilligenagentur, Intersport Pieron, Anna - das bin ich, Der Nähkasten, Wilhelm Busch - Apotheke, Purzelbaum und Bett, Bad & Co.

Mechtild Hoffs as chairperson of the ISG Altstadt Bocholt is pleased about the cooperation and emphasises that "a people-friendly approach to dementia can contribute to more understanding. We naturally support this concern and are very happy to make our shop windows available for this purpose".
