Information session for seniors on Wednesday, Oct. 12, starting at 9:15 a.m. at the City Savings Bank // What are my rights as a patient?

Healthy and self-determined in old age: This is the motto of an event on Wednesday, October 12, aimed at senior citizens from Bocholt, the "Generation 60+". It will deal with topics relating to health, such as: What rights do I have as a patient? How can I assess the quality of health services? The event will take place from 9:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. in the rooms of the Stadtsparkasse on Neutorplatz. The senior citizens' advisory council of the city of Bocholt invites you.

Participation is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided. Registrations are now being accepted at the municipal senior citizens' office by phone 02871 953-758 or e-mail edelmann(at)bocholt(dot)de until October 6.

Whether on the subject of health services or rights vis-à-vis doctors and hospitals - patients and their relatives are faced with a multitude of decisions.

The "60+ generation" is very experienced, but the question often arises as to what information can be trusted. Decisions often have to be made under time pressure, for example about individual health services that have to be paid for by the patient, the choice of medication, the source of supply of the medication or about "24-hour care". Anyone who wants to participate in the healthcare market as an equal partner must know his or her rights and be able to question the services offered in terms of quality and price.

The "responsible health customer" is therefore the focus of the half-day event sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Experts, including from the North Rhine-Westphalia Consumer Center, will discuss with participants the topics "My rights at the doctor's office and in the hospital," "Mündige Kundschaft: Mit Individuellen Gesundheitsleistungen sinnvoll umgehen" (Mature customers: dealing sensibly with individual health services) and "Klima: Zum Umgang mit Hitze" (Climate: dealing with heat).
