Generations cook together at the Fabi
Project Generations, Cultures, Diversity // Comrades-in-arms wanted // Motto: Living Democracy
As part of the project "Generations, Cultures, Diversity" there will be a "Generations Cooking" on Tuesday, April 5, starting at 2:30 pm. We are still looking for more people to help out. Pupils of the Berufskolleg am Wasserturm are committed to diversity and countering extremism as part of the so-called Social Leadership License and IHELP - and want to cook together with seniors, especially those with international family histories, and engage in conversation in the process.
"The seniors should enjoy and have fun in the dialogue with young people and cooking together," emphasizes Ricarda Leson from the Jusina association, which is coordinating the project together with the senior citizens' office and the integration officer of the city of Bocholt as well as the Leben im Alter e.V. (L-i-A) association.
Diverse society is valuable
"We want to strengthen young people so that they learn about opportunities to better participate in society and improve their living situation," says Agnes Wellkamp of L-i-A. The aim is to promote dialogue between the generations and make it an enriching experience for both sides. ""One goal is also to encourage young and old to learn to appreciate diversity as valuable. Solving challenges, no matter what kind, is easier for everyone with tolerance, openness and a constructive attitude," emphasizes Nina Kremer, head of the senior citizens' office of the city of Bocholt.
Using the wealth of experience of older people
At the same time, the aim is to enable young people to draw on the wealth of experience of older people so that they can play an active role in civil society. "In doing so, we also want to make it clear that integration is not one-sided, but a task for all citizens to help shape society," adds Bruno Wansing, Integration Officer for the City of Bocholt.
The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 5, between 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Family Education Center (FABI) at Ostwall 39.
