City warns against fake news on social media

A false report is currently circulating on social networks that is intended to deceive the public into believing that the city of Bocholt paid out "demo money" to participants in the demonstration last Saturday (27.1.24). The picture shows banknotes and an alleged official letter with the logo of Bocholt city council.

The city of Bocholt points out that this is a false message ("Fake News"). This message contains untrue information and is devoid of any truthful content. The report is therefore a deliberate deception and disinformation of the public. The city administration of Bocholt makes it clear that it has no connection whatsoever to this false news item.

The city of Bocholt has filed a criminal complaint.

The spread of fake news is a serious matter that undermines public trust and can cause unrest. Citizens are therefore advised to contact official sources - such as the city council in this case - directly if they have any doubts about the authenticity of news and not to be influenced by misleading information circulating on social media. The city of Bocholt would like to thank everyone who contributes to preventing the spread of fake news and protecting the city's society from deception and disinformation.
