"Jugend musiziert": Young musicians delight the audience

Prizewinners' concert in the historic town hall

At the "Jugend musiziert" concert in Bocholter's historic town hall, the prizewinners wowed the audience with their musical performances.

Together with the regional committee "Jugend musiziert", the Bocholt-Isselburg music school organised the prizewinners' concert of the Westmünsterland regional competition for the Borken and Wesel districts.

After the welcoming address by Bocholt's mayor Thomas Kerkhoff and the director of the Bocholt-Isselburg music school, Claudia Borgers, Scarlet Marlee Martin-Andrade (violin) and Charlotte Kasprowiak (piano) opened with a lively tango. The Bocholt-based duo Carl Levin Müller (cello) and Wangzi Hao (piano) then delighted the audience with their "Pfannkuchen Rag". Maximilian Karstedt then brought the soprano saxophone to full sound with "Souvenir de la Savoie".

Justus Frensch whisked the audience away to "The Ruined Castle" and enchanted them with his nuanced guitar playing in Prelude No. 4 by Villa-Lobos. In "Putting on the Ritz", Alen Bajrovic from Bocholt impressed with a jazzy clarinet groove.

Helen Steinberg presented the "Aria from Otar Taktakishvili's Sonata" on the flute with confident intonation and a warm sound. Charlotte Kasprowiak confidently managed a "Hungarian Dance" on her violin.

In the second half of the concert, Marit Kemper and Merit Eleonoere Bußmeier delighted the audience with their fresh four-handed piano playing. Ben Heju Sun also contributed to the wide range of the concert programme with his guitar and the rather experimental "Elogio de la Danza". He played his way confidently through the dissonances and rhythms of the two movements. For a change, soprano Cassandra von Dehn contributed "Cats - Memory - Midnight. Not a sound from the pavement" by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

During the concert, Mayor Kerkhoff presented all the participants with a certificate and thanked them for their contributions. Many of the musicians will now go on to the state competition "Jugend musiziert" in Cologne from 8 to 10 March.
