FW Bocholt: Vegetation fire on cycle path - fire brigade prevents spread

On 9 May 2025, the Bocholt fire brigade was alerted to a vegetation fire on the cycle path between Industriestraße and Uhlandstraße. When the emergency services arrived, an approximately 20 metre long embankment parallel to the Pleystrang, a tributary of the Bocholter Aa, was on fire. The fire had already spread along both sides of the cycle path.

The embankment was around five metres deep and up to two metres steep, which made access to the site of the fire difficult. In order to quickly bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading further, two nozzles were used simultaneously.
To improve accessibility and prevent the flames from spreading to parked vehicles, both a construction fence in the parking area of a car dealership and a wire mesh fence had to be opened. The affected areas were then intensively moistened with water and cooled down in a targeted manner.

The operation was completed after a good half hour for the 10 emergency crews.
