FW Bocholt: Flat fire with one injured person
FW Bocholt (ots) -
The Bocholt fire brigade was called to an alleged chimney fire in Weserstraße at 07:20. When the fire brigade arrived, the ground floor of the semi-detached house was heavily smoky. A resident of the house had suffered burn injuries and smoke intoxication while trying to extinguish the fire and was immediately treated by the ambulance service and transported to St. Agnes Hospital. A respiratory protection team finally located the fire in a false ceiling in the immediate vicinity of a fireplace. The fire and the smoke had already spread to the living room and the adjacent bathroom and could be fought by the preceding troop. Due to the unclear situation, the volunteer fire brigade was called in. A chimney sweep, who had also been alerted, checked the chimney together with the fire brigade. The operation could be terminated after 2 hours. In the meantime, basic protection for the city of Bocholt was provided by volunteers. A total of about 40 firefighters were deployed. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the police.
